Turing Machine
An idealized computer consisting of an infinite tape and a read-write "head" which moves back and forth on the tape, reading and writing, according to a rule set that refers to i) what it sees on the tape ii) an internal "memory" state.
Note that (except for an association with Atomic Age mathematician Alan Turing) this term is not related to the various classes of intelligent machine, such as sub-turing, turingrade, superturing and hyperturing, which denote different levels of sophonce and are concerned with the Turing Test and associated concepts.
