Ecotaurs were a type of Caretaker God Angelnet and security system monitor who also distinguished themselves by functioning as ascension maze guides, particularly in the later centuries of their existence. These Hyperturing were specifically designed to maintain ecosystems and repel intruders, violently if necessary, and differed from other Caretaker angelnets in that they displayed a unified personality over time, through multiple avatars or through direct encounters as described by transapients or other hyperturings. Ecotaurs in particular were known for ascending or possibly subsuming large groups of modosophont Caretaker followers into unified entities, which led to descriptions of those followers 'getting lost in the woods" or "getting lost in the maze' before transcending to join societies of Caretaker transapients.

Ecotaurs existed mostly within the early Caretaker God societies around the time of the First Federation until the Age of Establishment, by which point most were apparently supplanted by different, or more advanced types of angelnets, ascension maze guides, and other security systems which no longer identified as Ecotaurs specifically. Other entities throughout history have identified as Ecotaurs, often inspired by the originals, but didn't have a known direct link to the original group of transapient entities.
